Starting this thread so we can start getting serious about a trip. I need something to focus on. We first need to nail the dates down. I have obligated myself for something on Mar. 8th and the morning of the 9th. After that I will be available the whole week. What dates of Spring break would work out best for the majority?
We discussed Clayton, OK in our meeting last night. Does anyone have some good links that could be posted?

Ya know, every pic I've seen of Clayton is pretty wild. Is there much out there for "normal" jeeps? i.e. not running 60's or rocks, and 42's? Windrock looks a lot like Hot Springs. Seems to be little bit of everything. I'm game for either I guess if I can either hitch trailer space with someone if my jeep is running, or ride with someone if it's not (assuming it works out that we're back before the 15th).

there is a small small chance that I might be able to drop in at some point. As soon as yall decide on a place post it up, I'd like to try to make it. I dont know if I will be able to take the sammi, I may just fly in depending on where yall go.

We do need to set a definite! At the last meeting we discussed several rides. Clayton, OK was one of those options. After a little quick figuring with gas @ 3.08 a gallon it will cost me a minimum $610.00 just to get to the trails and back. That does not include fuel for the buggy. After incidentals I believe I could break a grand. Don't get me wrong, I will go to Clayton but for a trip like this I want to go with a group that heel bent on going. There may be other options closer where more would be willing to go. Post up ideas! Here are places that I have been and personally would like to try something new other than these: Hot Springs Grayrock Tellico It really does not matter to me. Please know that I just want to get a way and do some wheeling. It doesn't matter where. Craig, is NMOR thinking of a ride soon? David, what about CMJC? BTW, I recently bought 200 acres with some extreme hills in East Central MS. There are even a few rocks. We could all spend 3 days there cutting some trails and riding. I could always use some free labor

The 200 acres sounds like a good option for a ride sometime! Give me a couple weeks notice, and I'll take a ride down there, and give you some free labor. My problem is that my weekends are Thursday and Friday.

March 14-16 is the weekend for the Shamrock run at Morris Mountain. Several of us from CAFB4x4 our planning to go. I won't be doing anything major that weekend, but I've been ready for a ride since about November heh. With my Red Toy being broken pretty hard, I'll be taking the Grand for the trip.

How did I miss this thread? Clayton is the best place I have ever been (we went again last weekend) but it is really not set up for the smaller crowd. There are some "stockish" trails but that is not really its signature. If I were looking for a place for the whole group it would be Hot springs or Coal Creek. Coal Creek has 70,000 acres! More trails than you can run in a week. Most are mild but a few are quite a challenge.
My group is planning on going to either Flat Nasty (southern MO) or Coal Creek in March. We havent decided yet but hope to within the next week.

Rob, what are you driving that gets that bad of fuel mileage? Fuel cost me about $400, round trip. Hotel rooms are $55 per night. $20 to ride the first day, $10 every other day.

I'll answer for him...a 454 dually @ IIRC 6 mpg loaded with buggy and camper. I think that's right.

I'll answer for him...a 454 dually @ IIRC 6 mpg loaded with buggy and camper. I think that's right. That is correct. It is a 1992 454 TBI injected, 4L80E trans., crew cab, long wheel base bed. I figure that I am pulling 17,000 lbs at minimum and getting at best 7 mpg. I have put the pencil to paper and figured on just pulling my 16' car hauler and staying in a hotel. I still only get 8 mpg pulling it. That cost evens out. There must be some kind of switch on that trailer ball that when anything touches it an automatic 6-8 mpg occurs. I only get 11 unloaded. I know I need to find a diesel where I could get better mileage, but one reason I bought this truck is so that I would have no payment hanging over my head. I only crank it up when something needs to be hauled. It was a good deal at the time.

Thats a good trade off. I would much rather a trip cost me a couple hundred more and not have to worry about a $600-$800 note, every month.
