Finally, I'm packed up and ready to go. My bronco is on the trailer, clothes packed, just trying to wind down and get some sleep before seven o'clock rolls around tomorrow morning. See everybody there

I heard from RC in Little Rock tonight. Seems BC broke something in an axle this morning and they spent most of the day fixing it. Rob's buggy is pretty much a monster - if it can't go over the boulders it just knocks them out of the way! The lack of fenders on the buggy requires the passengers to hold their hands over their eyes to protect them from flying sand and rocks! Sounds like some goggles are needed. I wish I was with them!

Well, I am back.Yes,I broke a drivers side axle shaft. It was basically driver error.(I thought I could make it)Thanks to Craig,Rob,RC,Jim and David (from Jackson) for all the help. There is no way I could have fixed it out there by myself.Man,it was still a blast and I will do it all again.Poor Chip suffered a worse fate and as far as I know is still broke down waiting on parts.Luckily some one at Hot Springs had some extra shafts for me to use.If you have never been there ..go.Its great and we met some really great people. What a way to end the year!!Lets get started planning a ride to another place.Windrock any one???

I just wanted to drop in and say how much I enjoyed riding with you guy's. This is what happened to me after yall left. Rear Axle Ring Gear The odd part of this is when I pulled the third member out, the driver side race and backlash adjuster were laying in the bottom of the differential (due to a broken cap) I don't know if this is a result of driving the jeep back to the trailer with the ring gear binding or if the broken ringgear was a result of this coming off?

I agree that it was a blast. I had about as much fun assisting with the work on Brian's rear end as riding. (How bout those c-clips, huh?) Anyway, I did snap a pic of the broke shaft for prosperity. Can't wait to see (and hear) the video of it. I did make it back Friday afternoon for more riding and brought the kids along. I think they are hooked. Time to beef up the CJ and get ready for the next trip.

Happy New year to everyone. I am just now able to check in and report. I would like to chime in and also say what a blast that I had on this trip. The riding and fellowship was tremendous. I certainly have marked that as a place to return. David, it was good meeting you and being neighbors there for a few days. Hey I am putting my camper in the sale paper today. I am in the market for a pop-up. I am sorry to hear about your r&p. I guess that crawler box is working pretty good I am proud of the way that the buggy performed. I was actually able to drive it back on the trailer. This was the first time I really put it through the ringer. I woke up this morning thinking about Mike's Hill (a pretty extreme verticle climb) and things I should have tried different. That was such a blast. From the video it was evident I was scared at first, but warmed up to the idea in the end. Even though I drove the buggy back on the trailer, it was not without damage. I uncovered a few things after I washed the mud off - here is the damage: - 2 bent rear and one front link arm (from bouncing on rocks)
- cracked and stripped threads in my transmission mount/t-case adapter
- smoked a power steering pump
- bent lower link arm brace - I assume from the weight of the buggy bouncing backwards down Mike's Hill
- cracked motor mount
- rock rash on lower rails of the frame
My goal on the trip was to find the weak points and they arose, but nothing too extreme. My immediate improvements other than fixing the things above are building some bead lock rims that are a little wider. My tires are not flexing well and part if it is due to running 8 psi to hold a bead and a 18.5" wide tire on a 10" rim has my sidewalls pulled in tight. I may look at weld on bead locks and a 12" rims in the future. I took one of my former students on the trip and he was absolutely amazed. It was funny to hear him all the way home putting parts together that he has laying around to make a trail rig. BTW, Craig he has an old parts Bronco that he even mentioned doing a little cutting on especially after I told him that I already had a narrowed grill, hood and fenders he could have. He will come around one day. Thanks again guys it was a blast! I am looking forward to the next trip.

I hate I missed most of you guys, we got there Friday night and rode Saturday in the rain. Those trails turn into waterfalls... It was awesome. I have some short videos and a couple pics I will put up. I bent a tierod and got some good rock rash on my rockers and hubs. Oh, and I had a split fuel line so I had to run back to town to get some more line and was back in business.

Even though I did break 2 crmo alloy shafts at the same time, within the first 2 hours of wheeling I might add, that was one of the best wheeling trips I have ever been on! I had so much fun, we rode so much that I didn't even get out to take pics. Chris managed to get 1.5 hours of video though, so it will be edited and maybe merged with some more footage early in 2007, hopefully we'll have DVDs made too. I have to send my shafts in to see if they are covered under warranty... if the u-joint failed and broke the shafts, then its not covered... but if the engineers at superior axle feel that the shafts broke before the u-joint failed, then they will warrant me some new shafts... the u-joint was brand new, just installed before the ride and it was a spicer 760 with full circle clips, so I really dont see how the u-joint would have failed that quickly. we shall see though...
