Could be. Are you not going to be sprayed with mud and water on the trail, since you have no solid floor? That is a nice welder. I bet it can weld some thick stuff. Mine is a 135. Did you get shielding gas to go with it or are you using flux core wire? It is looking good. Awesome project. You sure will be able to turn some heads.

The mud splashing is an issue, but on the same token it will just wash right through the bottom. I don't think mud coming from the bottom is going to be an issue anyway as the tires stick out 6" from the frame all the way around. I will be more concerned about mud coming from the sky than I will from below. The main reason that I did it was to be able to see anything I might catch up on underneath. I can see my whole rear axle and will be able to tell if I am high centered on something. I do have shielding gas, but I have welded some with flux core. I liked the FC better for making better penetrating welds, but the gas make prettier welds. All of the sheet metal work will be done with gas and anything that keeps me alive I will try to do with flux core. So would your vote be "no" on the straights?

as long as you don't have smoke stacks coming up through the floor, it wouldn't be obnoxious to me. if you did run a muffler, or even if you don't, you could put something like header wrap on the pipes beneath the floor area. that stuff is supposed to work, but i don't have any experience with it.
by the way, it is looking cool. it must be HUGE in person.

I have 40's on my new toy and I like the way it sounds, but I am not against running it with nothing. I think this will be a very good trip, I hope we can all make it at the same time. I know that most of the rides like this you will have the last min dropouts but I will like to see some big rigs to ride with.
You know this could be a CHEVY vs ford bet just for fun!!!

Thanks for the advice! I think I am going to run straights for now till I tear the buggy back down for paint. If I don't like it, I will change it when I put it all back together.
BTW, I just installed the dash and working on the gagues. I could be about 2 hours from firing the motor.

I fired the monster up last night! I was chomping at the bit to hear that Mustang roller cam 302 fire up on the propane. I was not disappointed. I can just tell by revving it up that it is turning a lot more horsepower at a lower RPM than my tired, old 400. It had gotten to the point with the old motor that it was so weak that it ws having trouble turning my 44's even with 6.72:1 gears. maybe now I can smoke them a little.

Awsome to hear that Rob. That thing looks too mean to give a quality ride heh. I'm sure the weight of that thing helps out though, the Tracker is on coils all the way around but at 2600lbs it will shake teeth loose if your not careful.

Let's get a dozen different spray can colors and have a paint party on it.

looks like somebody started without us, Jason. Which is it, Rob, the orange or the green?

Well, the color has been a big toss-up. I was thinking at first that I would go back with orange, but my wife doesn't like it and I am not so sure that it would look as good on the buggy as it did on the Bronco. I am leaning toward green. I am not intending on doing a John Deere theme, but it kinda looks that way. I am using yellow because I already had the seat covers - leaning toward green because of my school colors. Might get some points with the big boss I do like Jason's idea of a bunch of people showing up with their favorite color and painting a section.
