The only thing getting me through the stress of my own finals and work at my school is thinking about this trip. Everyone seems to be cooperating since I put it on the calendar and told everyone to plan around me. The ability to go on this trip seems to be my big Christmas present.

I am getting fired up about this ride too. The end of the month is a hard time for me to take off work, but I am still planning on it. I might have to wait and come up Friday though.
THE GTJC RIDES AGAIN!

hey Rob, have you decided on which day and what time you will be pulling out?Maybe we can get a few together so if there is a problem on the road we can all stand and stare at it.I will be towing the TJ also.

I really haven't nailed down the exact departure time or day for that matter. I just told my folks to not count on me between Christmas and New Years - so I guess I am flexible. I would like to leave in the early morning so that I can travel in the daylight.
I have some situations I have some mechanical issues I have to solve before I head off.
1. I am beginning to hear a whining sound in the rear axle of my 1 ton duelly. My rear axle tube is spun slightly and I think that it is putting pressure on my spider gears which are wearing down and creating a great deal of slack between the carrier and the axle shafts. This concerns me just a bit. A whole new/used rear axle housing is in order. This option will allow me to tow at a decent speed and not be able to take my camper. and sleep in a tent.
2. I have been working on my (new to me) 1980 C60 with a 24' flat bed. I have gotten the truck to running perfectly and have gone through the brakes. I had counted it out because of the tires and wheels. It has those old 2 piece (man killer) rims. However, a set of tubeless, one piece rims with good tires fell in my lap yesterday. So this option has come to life again. Can you imagine a 35' long, big truck with a 4x4 on the back and pulling a 30' camper behind it? I think I will get some stares and comments on the road. There may be laws against this. If this option pans out then I will only be able to travel around 60 mph at most.
The time I leave all depends on getting my junk together. It certainly would make me feel more comfortable caravaning with someone, but you may not be willing to tolerate 60 mph. Watcha think?
I am not sure if some or all of my family is going, but if I do take the camper and it is just my son and I, there is a fold out couch in a separate room that you are welcome to.

The buggy needs 15' to be comfortable on the back of the truck. The fifth wheel camper hitch will take up the rest.

I am very comfortable with 60 mph.Early morning daylight driving is great for me.And thanks for the couch offer.I will only be bringing Bryce(my 9 yearold). We are planning on roughing it if the camper doesn't pan out.Do you think I need to bring my big gas bottle heater and generator?

.Do you think I need to bring my big gas bottle heater and generator? I am not sure if a generator will be necessary. The campground should have electrical hookups to sustain us. The heater may be more important if you had to choose between the two. As far as my camper everything runs off of 12 volts except fo the A/C which we hopefully won't need. I do have access to a nice 110v Miller wire welder that I am thinking about throwing in just in case. I believe I will suit it up with flux core wire so that I won't have to hassle with a gas bottle.
