Buy a pre-made harness or build from scratch? The circuits I would need: Headlights Stop-Tail-Turns Turn signal switch Electric fan Fuel pump The engine should wire up with 4 or 5 connections. A lot of guys are starting with panels from www.12voltguy.com ... that seems like a decent option. The wiring could be much simpler w/out the tail lights and turn signals, but I would like to be able to drive on the street in places like Moab where it isn't practical to trailer a rig to the trail.

I would probably buy one of those 18 circuit pre made painless harnesses from Summit racing.
I have also thought those panels that the 12 volt guy did where very impressive and very resonable.

I like the panels from 12voltguy. I would go that route but I would probably make my own harness. 1. cheaper 2. you can use crimp and seal connectors 3. you can run each wire exactly where it needs to be without worrying about length (inside tubing, etc). 4. you know exactly what each wire is and where it goes when you are done.
Thats just what I would do though.

12VoltGuy panels don't come with wires unless I'm mistaken? I think you have to buy the switch panel then a fuse block and wire it up from there. His basic buggy panel is $66 + $15.99 for the fuse block.
I used a pre-made harness on my bronco with good results. Either way, IMO, you're going to know every wire before it's over. I do like being able to run wires inside tubing...hadn't thought about that possibility.
Painless makes a good product. Their stuff is pretty much painless from what I've seen. I just wouldn't need the 18 circuits; more than likely 6-8 circuits would suit me.

Give Chris @ WRF a call or email him, he is good with wiring. He wired his Blazer from scratch, and it was straight forward and simple.

Hey man, I'm just before running into a meeting but when I get out I'll give you a run down of how I did mine and the pro's and con's to it. As with anything, Planning is the most important part. I did have to go back an run a few things differently because I didn't think about water and my starter was staying underwater haha.
