i have another problem too... my check engine light came on. i have one of those handy-dandy code readers and it said the throttle position sensor was the problem. i replaced that and that fixed it... until yesterday on the way to work. same light and same code. any advice for me?

I assume this is on a 77 CJ7? So it just won't start or is it just the check engine light thats on? Most of the time on my Cherokee and Grand if the check engine light is on it's due to a bad o2 sensor. If all you have is a check engine light on and the engine runs fine-- I wouldn't even worry about it. I think my check light's been on for a year or 2 on my Grand. After 100K miles on it you just stop worrying about it. -RC

Wait I read your last post-- so this is on a TJ then? Are you sure the CEL is for the TPS and not something else? When you put on the TPS did you set it? On my Cherokee when I replaced the TPS you had to use a Ohm meter to make sure the TPS was sitting in the right place. Did you do this? If the parameters are out of whack it would throw the codes. On my Grand you can read the code off the speedo and cross-reference the number to find what the problem is. Did you try this? Maybe your scanners telling you the wrong thing... Is the engine running any different when the light comes on? -RC

What is the Code # that your reader is throwing out? Have you tried researching that # on the Web? If it is not the TPS there are only a few other things that could trip that code. Doing a yahoo or google search with that # and model of vehicle usually does the trick for me.

the code is p0121. i googled it, and i'm sad to say, i don't have the mechanical vocabulary to know what the heck it was talking about. i need a translator.
