I may not be going to Gray Rock if I cant figure this one out... I got in the Jeep to go home after work and it wouldnt start... Acted like a dead battery... turn the ignition and the lights on the dash go dim. Try the horn and headlights... work fine. I have an alarm that was in the jeep when I bought it and I rarely ever arm it. It kept wanting to go off. It has always gone off automatically if the battery is disconnected then reconnected. but it was acting wierd. I finally got it to turn over and it acted like it was flooded but I finally got it cranked and drove home. Once I got home I tried to crank it again and it wouldn't turn over. I tried to bypass the solenoid switch and it just clicked. I know the alarm has a starter kill on it if it goes off or something, but I don't know how it works or if this is all caused by the alarm system or what. I removed the alarm "box" from under the dash and disconnected my battery to hopefully reset everything. I guess I will try again in the morning. Do any of you have any ideas? Anybody not doing anything tomorrow? I am at a loss.

I am starting to suspect a bad ground... I am going to look at it in the daylight and wiggle a few wires.

It sounds like a bad battery cable. check the connections at the battery. brad, also check those connections on the winch to make sure they are not causing any shorts. I would just unhook the alarm. The starter could have gone bad, it is just hard for me to tell without looking at it.

Yeah, I pulled the dash and got rid of the alarm... I am sure it is something simple... I hate these short days... I need the daylight

turn on the lights and try to crank it. If the lights dim a lot then there is a loss of voltage between the battery and the starter. If they dont dim, either the starter is malfunctioning or the solonoid is not sending fire to the starter.

yeah, when I turn the key to start it, everything not only goes dim, it goes out. and stays out until I unhook the battery and reconnect it. I am going to clean the terminals really good tomorrow and see what that gets me.

Brad it definitely sounds like you have a bad connection on the battery. I had the very same thing happen this weekend and I ended up having to replace my positive cable. It had a bad connection where the cable joined onto the clamp. Give me a holler tonight if you don't get it fixed. I will be in shortly after 5:00.
