I have what I believe is an LT1 that needs to be rebuilt and I am just looking for some suggestions. This motor will be for offroad, so torque and lower rpms are important. I want to run it on propane, so from what I have researched, a 11 or 12:1 compression ratio is desirable. Cost is a large factor too. What would be the best way to go? suggestions?

If you stick w/ stock internals, a cheap way to get a higher compression is to have the heads shaved. The machine shop I use charges $75 to do this.

You need to know how bad the engine is. Will it have to be bored, or just rings and gaskets. I have a PAW catalog here. The rebuild kit w/o pistons is around $200. Where the one w/ pistons is around $400

I haven't gone into the engine, but the previous owner said it was a spun bearing... but, like I said, no confirmation on that yet.

stroke it! you'll get loads of torque at low rpm and still be reliable
