I'm ordering a 4" lift for my 83 cj7. I'm also ordering 2-1/2" shackles. was wondering if i would have to lengthen my drive shafts. and has anybody ever used 2-1/2" shackles. how did they work?

I am assuming that 2 1/2 inch shackles means that your shackles will give 2 1/2 inches of lift. If that is the case then your jeep is going to drive like crap after you put them on. Lift shackles mess up the geometry of the steering and also increase the amount of sway in the shackles.

the shackles will limit your ability to turn well.if its raining and you have those shackles on your max speed should be about 2 miles per hour.its gonna be a consant battle with your jeep to get it to respond to your steering wheel.i wouldn't recomend it.there are too many other options for more lift than the increased shackles.its kinda like lift blocks on the front of a leave sprung vehicle,it looks good lifted but is dangerous to drive.sorry just tryin' to look after my fellow jeepers

Thanks but I have a question. why do they sell lift shackles if they throw the steering geometry off so bad. Also would it help to shorten or remove the factory shackle that on it.

They sell the lift shackles to people that might want to show their vehicle but not drive it too much.If i were to put extended shackles on my rig it would be no more than 1.25 inches. Some lift but still some stability.Look towards bigger spring packs, some people even make their own spring packs for lift.Just try to keep your steering in line. And watch your brake lines, don't over extend them and have one blow on you at a bad time.

How do I go about building my own spring packs. Is it ok to use add-a-leafs with my 4" spring pack.

Do you have a spring over conversion? If you Jeep is stock then adding spring packs is not going to do any good.
