I have a D44 with disk brakes from an Isuzu Rodeo that I want to put under my YJ. My question is about the bolt pattern. It is 6 lug on 5.5 and I would like to be able to carry only one spare. From looking at the flange on the shafts, I don't think it can be redrilled, and that would cause a problem with the rotors anyway. Would wheel adapters be the best way or is there an option I havent thought of?

It has seemed to me that the most important thing on choosing wheel bolt pattern is having one to match common wheels so it is easy to buy and resell them. It is also important to have one common with other people so that on trail rides you will be more likely to have a wheel pattern as someone else on the trail. That way, if you cut a couple of tires, then you can borrow spares. ( I saw one guy cut three tires in a creek bed in about 200 feet.)
Saying that, I think that the 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern is more common than the 5 on 4.5 so that is what I would try to move towards. To do this, you can either use wheel spacers ( which I personally do not like. I did run them for about a year) or you can convert your front axle from the knuckle out of dana 44 stuff with a 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern. Or better than that, put a dana 44 front in with 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern.
Another note to add is that about a month ago, I carried about 6 tires to Charlie Peay on 389 that had 15 x 8 chrome spoke wheels that had 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern. I also have a dana 44 front axle with 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern laying in front of my shop that I would love to put on you real cheap.

that front D44... is it driver side drop? I would really like to keep my D30 since I have it locked and all. but if I could use maybe the parts from the D44 to match up Bolt patterns that would be nice. I am going to shoot you an email
