I threw this together this morning, needs some work and I know the dimensions arent right, just estimated. I definitely want to either tie it into the frame or the rocker guards (when I do get some).

looks good chip. it looks like you will tie it into your windshield frame at the top? lots of triangulation and a couple of oh crap! handles. i like. lets build it! you think i could use your autocad to draw up some stuff for my angry bronco?

Sure, you can use it. I actually did that drawing in a program called Sketchup, b/c its really easy to use. I did that drawing in about 30 minutes.

that looks a lot like the cage I am looking at building... I will post a pic of it when I get back home to my own computer.

Chip do you think it would be hard for you, me and the guys to build an exoskeleton for my WJ. I think that would look good as well as keep my body damage to a min.

I think that would be awesome. Do you know what you want it to look like, or just come up with something? You need to figure up how much tube youll need though in feet, and what size tubing also. I think it would look good though.

I don't have an idea of how much tube I would need but I kind of have an idea of what I want it to look tike but I do not have access to a computer program like the one you have. I think if me and you sat down together we could come up with something. I think it would look tough too. Think about it and give me some ideas of how much tubing you think I would need and how hard it would be.

That one looks like a roll cage for the inside of the jeep. I was wanting to build one for the outside like a tube cage that would cover the outside body . If we cant build one for the outside then I think a few mods on the one you have would work great for the inside.

I didnt even see your post, sorry about that. Craig and I worked on that design last night for his Bronco, and it will be tied into the frame, may even become the frame in some spots. An exoskeleton will be much more difficult to do, and more expensive. Id say youd need at least 200 feet of tubing, probably more though. Youll also have to consider how to make the tubing bend around door openings, hood, rear door.... I believe you have a unibody also, which would make this terribly hard. Youd basically have to build an additional frame and connect it to yours somehow (via bolted plates maybe). I think you should stick with an interior cage personally, but if youre just trying to protect the body, Id say forget about the cage all together, and start looking at rocker guards, skid plates, and bumpers.

I forgot about the unibody part. Yea I think it would be harder to build an outer cage. If we could design up an inner roll cage then that would be cool. What would I need to do for us to get started on designing one? How much(feet) tubing would I need for that? Where my dad works he can get tubing for wholesale so the price might not be a factor. Think about it and let me know.
