ive got a question.i am looking to buy a 95 grand.one of the cleanest ive seen.it has full time 4 wheel drive,5.2 v8,allthe buttons.one problem...when you get on it pretty good the 4wd in the front starts throwing a fit.it pops and grinds.i can get this jeep pretty cheap ,at least cheap enough to get it and fix the front end and still feel good about it.the question i have is,whats the noise, axles or gears?does anybody make a kit to disengage the front end like you used to get for the old full time chevys?ya'll think it would be worth $2800?

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. It would be hard to say what is wrong without looking at it though.

2800 sounds pretty cheap. How many miles are on it? Corey's 99 Grand has the same niose when he gets on it and it's a full time. His user name is 99rockkrawler. I haven't talked to him in a while, so he might have fixed it. Maybe he figured out what it was. Do you think the front CVs have gone bad? I'm not sure what they'd act like if one were broken. If it is broken you can put u-jointed axles in it from a cherokee or wrangler. You can buy a used pair for 100-150 on Ebay. I have a 97 Grand that's full-time and I am converting it to part-time now. I replaced the front end with a high-pinion Dana 30 I got from a Cherokee. It's stronger and has u-joints in the axles, not CVs. I am putting a NV231 transfer case in it from a Cherokee. There are several articles on how to swap out the full-time 249 transfer case for either a 242 or a 231. Here are two I found: cherokeekid5.tripod.com/t_case.htmjeephorizons.com/tech/tcase.htmlI originally was going to do the swap over Christmas, but the 242 I bought was bad, so I returned it for a 231. After spring break I'll be able to tell you how hard or easy the swap is. I bought my Grand in October. After owning a Cherokee, I really appreciate the Grand. The coil spring suspension rides better than the cherokee, and is easy to lift. I really like the V8 too. Hope this helped. -RC
