Engine/trans donor vehicle is here. Towed up the '95 ZJ from Raymond this weekend. My WJ towed it pretty well, but I only got 10mpg with it out of OD the whole way. I'm going to work on getting the motor running and then I'll pull it out. It hasn't been started in a few years. -RC

I have a NP231 out of a YJ I'm going to use. It has a 23 spline input shaft, which will mount to the back of the ZJ trans just fine hopefully. If it doesn't, I'll just swap inputs from the 249 in that ZJ with the 231.

Worked on getting the motor running last week. Invited a few friends and co-workers for the fun. Drained the old gas in the tank: Put a new battery in it and it fired up. Some rats chewed through the jackets on the plug wires, so we had to put out a few small fires on the valve covers. The plug wires arcing set the rats nest smoldering. Time to pull the motor.

Pulled and labeled most of the wiring harness. Used a sawzall to remove the front crossmember. Recruited Jeff the coworker to help again Lots of pulling, sawzalling, and prying, and it came right out. Once we had everything out, you can't help but notice the motor/trans/transfercase combo is long. 76"long from the crank pulley to the end of the t-case tailshaft. A quick measurement on the M38, and it's 76" from the grille to the rear axle pinion. I'm putting a SYE on, but I'm going to need to move the rear axle back some more. I've heard of people putting the same ZJ drivetrain in TJs. I just wonder how long the driveshaft ends up being.

M38 project is paused for a month or 2. I just bought a house (with a 2 car garage), so now my funds and my time are going towards moving. I'm excited. Mark Guyton's shop was nice, but having a house with a garage is a good thing. -RC

I put a contract on a house in Plantation Homes in Starkville. It's an older home in a neighborhood just north of the Hospital on 389. The closing is Aug 5th. Hopefully all will go well between now and then. -RC

Contract on the house in Plantation Homes fell through. I put another contract on a foreclosed house though, so I'm going through with that. I bought a house in the back of Belaire Estates Subdivision, near the MSU golf course on Hwy 182. It passed the termite inspection and everything, so everything looks good for closing in the beginning of Sept. Big thanks to Mark Guyton's keen eye for detail though. This foreclosed house looked like it might come with a double lot, but the bank had it listed as only having one. Mark looked into the tax history of the land and it looked like 2 lots. Realtor looked up the deed, and it does have 2 lots! I'm buying a house with 2.5 acres! Now I can build a big shop on it one day and still have a yard. I'm pretty excited about it. M38 project still on hold while fixing up the house and moving in commences. -RC

No updates on the M38. I've been working on the house the past few months and I've got a garage on it now. I should be moving the M38 over there pretty soon. Here's some before pics: I did some anti-landscaping with Mark's tractor and also took out the garage wall to add the door. M38 should be in there soon. -RC

Huh, there is a house there. Ours was the same way, when we bought it there was a jungle where the flower bed was suppose to be. Congrats
