Well guys, due to the current state of the economy I was let go from Taylor Machine Works. It's kind of sad, but I know there will be another job out there. My plan is to stay in Starkville at least the month of May to finish up little things, and then I'll be moving to Raymond, MS. My parents have an apartment in the shop they built, so I'll just take up residence there. I'm looking around for jobs and applying (most are in the southeast) but I have no leads yet. If anyone knows of any mechanical engineer job openings let me know. I appreciate the help. Thanks guys. -RC

We know the crunch too well. My wife and everyone else at the cement plant are being let go as of June 1. At least we have had a heads-up for about two months. As of today at lunch, we are accepting a job offer in Jackson at MDEQ. We can start our own GTJC Southern Division! I’m sure our move will take quite a while, (house to finish remodeling then to sell/rent, find a house to buy).
You have a PM on a job posting.

I doubt you'd be willing to move there, but there're always plenty of engineering jobs in Hunstville.

Yeah I've been noticing that. I've applied to several there in Huntsville, but I think the market must be flooded or something. I've either gotten no responses from applications, or rejections. Oh well. I'll keep up the applying. -RC

It could be flooded, but I'm not sure. One of my relatives at NASA tells me they're full of engineers at the moment but have mass retirements imminent (within 5 years). She pointed me to a job that is technically temporary (capped @ 6 years) but is an excellent way to get your foot in the door should a position open up.
To view it, go to usajobs.gov and search for job number 80825947.

The most demand will be for electrical. We need to keep our gtjc president here. Call me if you want a contact name.

Don't know if you have looked on that usajobs.gov site much, but from what i have seen popping up on job adds the vicksburg district US Army Corps of Engineers has been offering a good number of engineering jobs. I live in Raymond and drive to Vicksburg, I am the district forester for the corps here. i will be glad to forward you any of the job announcements that pop up if you are interested?

I've checked the usajobs site a few times and applied to a few there. I gave my resume to a buddy that works at the corp in Vicksburg. I had a recruiter (from the corp) call me and say they were looking for people with a masters and not a bachelors though. Another thing that hurts me with the government is that my GPA in undergrad was less than a 3.0. Despite having experience, it seems like the GPA is a hinderance (from what the recruiter said anyway). I just had an interview at a place in Huntsville Tuesday though for a place that does contract work for redstone arsenal. Looks like a cool job (working with missles), but there were a lot of people that applied for the job. I'll know soon if I got the job. I'll call you one of these days Rob. I've heard good things about Eurocopter. Thanks for the help guys. -RC

Job in Huntsville was a no. I'm still in Starkville-- got a temp job working in facilities on campus that should last a month. Thanks for asking.

When you get down to Raymond, let me know. I am working in Clinton now. I have some contacts in the area... I will ask around for any mech. engineering gigs.

RC interviewed at Aurora last week, and I just got news that they have offered him a job! It looks like we'll have him back in the Golden Triangle!
