I bought a used XD9000i not too long ago that needed fixing up. I replaced a few parts (clutch lever and remote) and when I tried it last night, the solenoid just clicks (motor doesn't move). I need to see if the soleniod's bad though before I just go replacing it. Any idea how to check it? Also-- the remote I got has the LED flashlight in it. Well the light doesn't work. Anyone have a wiring diagram on the pinouts to the remote? I want to make sure it's getting power. I could try googling all these questions, but I thought I'd come here first. Thanks for the help. -RC

Did you get it figured out?

Yup got it figured out. I did the solenoid bypass trick and the motor didn't do a thing. I took the motor off and it had some mud and spider webs in it. Everything inside looked rusted too. I took a toothbrush and water and got the big stuff out. Put the motor back on and it worked perfectly. On a side note-- how do you clean corrosion from motor and it's contacts? My dad was saying not to use anything abbrasive because it could ruin the insulation on all the wires. Also-- where is the nearest starter rebuild place (in case this thing needs rebuilding in the future)? Thanks. -RC

Oh yeah-- and I figured out the light on the remote. The early XD9000i's only had a 3 wire hookup to the remotes, and my new remote looks for 5. I got to looking into it, and the new remote looks for motor ground for the light to work. The old winch doesn't have a motor ground in the remote, so I just got an extra deutz connector here at work and put it to the motor ground. Now my new remote light works. -RC

Cool...Rob will know the name of a good guy to call about rebuilding electric motors in West Point. I can't remember his name.
