First, I stress the importance of taking individual action to keep a great system of trails open. So, please take this seriously because Trout Unlimited wants to have basically all the big-name trails at Tellico closed: Lower 2, Slickrock, Peckerwood Connector, Guardrail, Helicopter Pad, and Fain's Ford. There is a good possibility that ALL of the trails will be closed without your help. Notice that some of these trails aren't even close to the river. Together, we can do this and keep our trails open.
In the next couple of weeks, the Forest Service will release six possible proposals and will choose one by the end of the year. The proposals will range from complete closure of the Upper Tellico trail system outside Murphy, NC, to keeping all current trails open.
After the proposals are released, there will be a public comment period. We each need to write substantive letters to the FS giving our support of a proposal that keeps the trails open. Notice I say letters--plural. Unlike voting, you can write early and often. This issue is so important, the Ranger district in Murphy has been circumvented, and all comments will be made to the larger office in Asheville.
You can use pirate4x4.com's letter generator to send your letter during the comment period.
If just 50 of us write letters from this board, we can make a substantial contribution to help keep the trails open.
I'll update this thread when the proposals are announced.

Thanks.
If you haven't been to Tellico, it's a worthwhile trip and experience. In the link, there are several recent vids of people on the currently open trails. This area is worth saving for responsible OHV use.
