Who around here do yall use to go inside axles. I am looking to change my gears out and wanting to know who yall suggest and about how much it will be. Thanks

What kind of axles are you looking to regear? Where do you live? A few years ago we did a gear install party with the club and did a TJ front axle. I did a regear on a Ford 8.8 with the CAFB 4x4 guys also a few years ago. There's a few of us in the club that have experience, and whenever someone does a project like that we all help out. If you buy the gears and the install kit and you want to do something like this, let us know. Changing them isn't really hard to do. If you're willing to host the "learning experience", it would save you the labor cost. As far as a shop in town that does it-- I don't know of any. I know there's some places in Jackson that do it though. Jackson Powertrain is a name that comes to mind. -RC

Im wanting to regear my 90 yj. It has d30 and d35. I just want them in rite and if you guys know how to do it and are willing to help that would be great once i get the parts in.

I've got a service manual for my '88 Cherokee. It had the Dana 30 and 35. I rebuilt the 35 in it (regearing it) and it wasn't hard as long as you followed the manual and you had the rebuild kit. I've put about 30,000 miles on the rebuilt axle and had no problems with the gears. Whenever we do another meeting we can talk about it more. I'll bring my service manual and you can take a look at it. -RC

I've done my fair share of gear installs. One of the best articles I've read was billavista's dana 60 gear install guide on Pirate4x4. A lot of good info and pictures to go by. Basic knowledge, tools, good parts, a good guide (or someone in the know), and some patience, you'll be just fine.

I used Holman Transmission in Columbus to do my front.....I did the rear. While some say it might be "easy", it is definitely a pain in the ass. One thing to keep in mind is that if you're going to a 3:73 or lower, you'll have to change your carrier. I learned this the hard way (part of the "pain" referred to above!). That also figures into your finances, too. Holman charged me $300 for the front, and it was worth it to me. If you decide to do it yourself, I live in Aberdeen, too, and would lend a hand if you need it.
