Found this Lincoln Powermig 255C on Craigslist in Birmingham. Brand new and never used for $1500. Dan White (one of Craig's english buddies) and I went on Tuesday night to pick it up. Trying to figure out the wiring (you can wire it on 220, 440 or 575): Mark trying to find out the polarity of 220 (I was pretty sure it didn't matter where the 2 110 legs went, but Mark called an expert): It didn't come with a bottle of gas or wire, so I had to get all that, but I still think it was a good deal. I'm having trouble finding .035 wire though in less than a 44lb roll. I had to order a 12lb roll here at NexAir so it might be a few days before I get to weld. Time for some serious fabrication! -RC

Looks sweet man...that's a serious machine. I run the large spools in mine. Actually, I'm still on the original spool of .035.
Have fun with it and post some pics of your practice pieces.

Where did you get the .035? I ordered a 12.5lb roll from NexAir that should be in on Wednesday. Practice pieces? Who said anything about practicing? I don't "practice" weld. I perfect weld, haha. -RC

Came with the machine from AirGas I believe. They're to the right on HWY 45 before the Coley Rd. exit in Tupelo. I know it wasn't NexAir.

Lowes has wire spools in 10lb and 2lb.

Yeah, I tried Lowes. They've got them up to .030 though, and no bigger. I'm not sure my welder will run the small ones either. I think the drive is set up for only the 12.5lb and bigger. -RC

I use .030 wire because it is easy to get at lowes. I generally buy the small roll because you don't want to keep wire for a long time. It will age on you and not weld well. You will also need to change your tips out for the wire size but that is not big deal either. Buy them at Lowes also.

I think he's talking about the actual center diameter size of the spools? Is that right RC?

Yeah I was talking about the spool center. I believe it will only fit the 12.5lb and above. The drive rollers are set up for .035-.045. I'd have to buy new rollers, a tip and a liner from what I've been told in order to run .030. I'll just get the .035. It's not worth all the work. I can buy the .035 in a 44lb roll from NexAir here because they regularly supply it to Taylor. I think the wire would rust before I could use all 44lbs of it though. -RC

Cool. Now I know who to go see for my heavy duty welding work Here is where I have bought spools for the 110 miller I'm borrowing: store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/weldingdepot/S603511.html?id=iN2btnZSPretty decent prices and they have most anything. Only catch is a $25 minimum order. Usually not a problem when ordering wire though. BTW: I've seen .035 at Lowes in flux core but now that you've got the bottle.... -jim
