I took some pictures here at work the past few days and I thought I'd share them. Axle from a log stacker (not sure what the lift specs are, bic pen is for size reference): Housing: Geared hubs: The ratio is around 30:1 with the geared hubs. Taylor makes the housing and the hubs and 3rd member come from a vendor. If you have trouble breaking 2.5ton rockwells you should run these things.

Taylor is a cool place. They also make very good lifts. I bought one at my last job and was able to go down and make a tour before we placed the order.

Here's some more I took. This is a drop-in 3rd member for the log stacker axle. Very similar to the Ford 9" except this one has a ring gear that's about 28" in diameter. It's huge.

Yeah, I noticed the pen and thought that was a good comparison for size.
Sounds like you have a real cool job. A lot of people don't get to do things that they consider fun.

Yeah it is a cool place to work. They do some pretty big things around here. Einstein said if you get a good job you never really work a day in your life. It probably has a lot to do with attitude, but I'd say that it's true. -RC
