I stopped by RC's shop tonight to watch him finish replacing his pinion seal.
At least those rubber plugs are easy to remove!

RC I love the shop! I don't care how fancy of a place someone can live, but a fellow just needs his space to do important stuff!

Yeah I'll have to agree with that Rob. Mark took pictures without any warning. It looks kind of a mess, but it's because I was in the middle of working on projects. I try to keep it more organized, especially since it's kind of small. I got a welding table the other day from here at Taylor. It's the 2'x3' metal table sitting there in the front of the last picture. They were about to scrap it, so I snagged it. Man it's nice to not have to weld off the floor anymore. Speaking of job perks- I borrowed a 3/4 impact from a guy in the shop the other day because I was having trouble getting the pinion nut off. It actually couldn't break the nut free, but I think it was because my 12 gallon compressor and 1/4" airline couldn't supply enough air to make it work right. I think it requires a 1/2" line (it uses 40cfm). I ended up using a pipe wrench to hold the pinion and a 3' breaker bar to break the nut free. Once I did though, the impact did a nice job of running it the rest of the way off. I drove the Jeep to work today and as far as I can tell there's no leaks, but it's hard to tell because of the rain. It didn't make any grinding noises though, so I chalk it up as a success. -RC

Yeah, the pinion nut and I have had our differences... but in the end, the skin covering my knuckles has got tougher over the years
