just finished installing a 4" lift kit on a 99 tj. It looks and rides great.I'll see if I can get some pictures of it .We had some problems with the pitman arm.Boy when they put those things on from the factory they mean for them to stay.Other than that it went on pretty easy.

Bryan,
Is your lift a Rough Country. I see a deal on a Rough Country Series II 4" lift. I was wondering if that is what you had. If so, do you recommend it?

We put a Rough Country 4" lift on a CJ - and we wouldn't do it again. We are putting a Rubicon Express 4½" lift on the CJ we're building now. The RE kit came with a bunch of parts that didn't come with the Rough Country (u-bolt skid plates, brake lines, etc.) We're not very happy with the quality of the Rough Country either. It doesn't seem that we're getting 4" of lift, especially on the rear springs. If you just add up the cost of the parts we had to buy extra for the Rough Country, I think we could have bought the RE kit. Live and learn.

I do have a Rough Country lift.I am very pleased with it for the price.I have put on several different brands and even contacted some lift companies on which one for the price.Rough country has been around as along and even longer than most and I have not had any problems with quality. It is a great entry level lift and mine measured 4 .5 inches in the back .For the money I do recommend this ,now that Ive said that I will say this.I would save up and go to the next level lift(long arm)if I had it to do over again.the 4 inch long arm is what I have my sight set for now.

I can get this kit with upgraded shocks and steering stabalizer for $500 with no shipping costs. My goal for my TJ is to have a good stance and fit bit larger tire for mild mud and ground clearance for riding around in pastures on the farm.
Bryan what about brake lines - did they pose a problem?

My only hesitation to getting the kit is that when you do something like this the floodgates open and you don't know where to stop - different wheels, bigger tires, lower gears, swaybar disconnects, and the list goes on. I guess that is why I own a Jeep

I just got the lift installed on my TJ w/ 33x12.50 Mud Dawgs and I have fallen in love with my Jeep all over again!
I managed to install the complete 4" Rough Country lift with no problem whatsover, but I have a minor problem. Has anyone ever removed their shifter knob on a TJ. I have tried turning it, but it is frozen solid. Not only that it is frozen solid upside down. I need to take it off to do some work on my shift boot, but I can't get the knob off. Am I overlooking something easy? It is bad when this is the hardest thing about this whole project.

All of the ones I have had any dealing with basically unscrewed.I assume that it is a 5 speed.I looked in some of my catalogs and the replacement ones just screw on it says. And by the way I can't believe that you have a lift on your TJ until there is visual proof (new rule) .I need pics or to see it in person.

It is a 5 speed and I assume that someone must have put some glue or something on the threads.

mine was really tough on my YJ. It has a little lock nut under the bottom with two flat sides.... not sure if the TJ does or not. I thought it was all one peice at first but you have to run the bottom nut on down and then the knob should back off.
