I noticed quite a few Cherokees at Charlie Peay's on 389 in Pheba this weekend. I could not tell you if they had shafts or not. I think he would be more reasonable on price. I would have a hard time paying more than $20 for a shaft I had to modify, but I am really cheap. Hmmm, maybe I'll have to go see him. There's nothing wrong with finding a cheaper price and I figure the more I save on each part, the more I can upgrade. I live right around the curve there so he's like my next-next door neighbor. BTW, next time you're over at Charlie's, stop by and say hi. I'm in the next house on the left as you head back toward Pheba (After Bell-Schoolhouse just before you go down the hill). -jim

Found a CV shaft at Chalie Peay's off a 91 Cherokee. Now I need a 1310 CV-style yoke for my Dana 20. According to the Spicer part number(2-4-4061X), it apparently was available on 66-71 Bronco's with the Dana 20. Anybody got one? Craig?

I have a 1310 style yoke from my old NP249 transfer case that came off of my ZJ. I know it will fit that cherokee driveshaft, but I have no idea if it will fit the Dana 20. I can bring it up here next weekend when I'm back at school if you want to try it. -RC

During more looking and research, I found out that the Dana 20 output yokes came with 10 spline and 26 spline versions among others. I believe what I read is that you can find CV yokes in the 10 spline version on the Dana 20 found on early Bronco's and the 26 spline version yoke can be found on the front output shaft of 76-79 CJ7 Quadra-trac Xfer cases. As luck would have it, of the two Dana 20's I have, I have the 10 spline on the rear of one and the 26 spline on the rear of the other. The one currently installed is the 10 spline, but I would be happy with either yoke at this point. As point of good news: I found that the drop pitman arm that is stock on the 91 Cherokee fits on the power steering box of the CJ. It gives me a 3" drop which brings things almost back to stock alignment. More $$ saved. Yoo Hoo! Now if the rest of my parts would just get here..... -jim

nice...i don't have another yoke lying around, but you can pick up a used one here: www.broncograveyard.com i've spent a lot of money with them, and they are generally pretty good.

Thanks Craig. I placed an order with them today. Web site said limited availability so we'll see. Probably put that on all used parts though.

Got some more work done this weekend. Thanks to Mikerob2334 and his YJ springs, I was able to put together the front axle. Got the spring perches, and lower shock mounts tacked in place. Also welded up some new upper shock mounts for some more travel. Found a net article about using Ford F250 upper shock mounts and had to try them since they were only $12 ea and I was gonna have to buy new shocks anyway. Here is a pic of them welded up. I think I will get a little more travel than the old mounts. Here is a pic of one of the old shocks stretched all the way out and hanging about 3" short of the new lower mount. Measurements put ride height length at 23". That oughta about do it. All that's left to do up front is figure out how I'm gonna do the sway bar. Think I'm gonna fabricate some disconnects; just gotta figure out how to mount it all. Got my CV yoke in from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and gonna take my rear driveshaft over to West Point to get shortened this week. If I get my BTF model 20 truss diff cover soon, I'll be able to work on the rear soon. Also working on ideas for rear traction bar. Got some parts for that. -jim

I posted a pic after i got my lift on. if you want to check it out it's under current projects/88 YJ project. let me know what you think. Works perfectly! I can't thank you enough. The two front springs ended up being different for some reason. Perhaps one was replaced at one time. Anyway, I ended up taking them apart and swapping some individual leaves with the CJ eye leaf and that leveled everything out perfect. That's gonna work pretty good I think since I already had bushings for CJ springs and the YJ ones are different. Thanks again, -jim

Got my driveshaft back and got the Jeep rolling under it's own power Fri. Took it to the ditch out front and flex'd it out a little. Significant improvement over what I had and looks better too. Still got a lot on the list to get it road worthy and won't be able to work on it much this week due to kid's soccer and baseball games. BTW, ya'll missed all the fun at WRF on Sat. Chip and Chris got all the cool toys. -jim

On the road again..... I am really liking the stance. Upgraded to "near 1 ton" steering from Rugged Ridge. Old tie rod was bent so why not? - Gotta build the M20 Truss. Still waiting on a truss diff cover from Blue Torch - Still gotta build a traction bar. Got some parts; just need to get the rest and do it. Other left to do: - Longer brake lines. Just relocated hard lines for now. - regear (the stock 2.73's really stink) - swap front knuckles from my old narrow track with the six bolt hubs and 11" rotors - Extend front driveshaft (ordered DOM fron Blue Torch with my diff cover) - Put in Detroit Truetrac in back when I regear and a lunchbox up front - front end alignment - steering box brace - new tires <sigh> Still a lot left, but I just had to get it on the road. This nice weather is just killing me. Took it down the road the other night. Didn't feel any driveline vibration, virtually nil bump steer, and I kinda got the toe-in alignment dialed in close so I am happy with progress so far. So much to do and so little time.....

I live just past the overpass on 389...The sign says Kathryn Cove. It's the first drive on the right past the bridge. Do you live just before the curve on the left, past where they always have the scarecrow's legs sticking out of a round hay bale in the fall?
The Jeep is looking good, too! Keep it up. Why not put a full Detroit in the back?
