Well after selling my hardtop on ebay, I managed to find a guy in Georgia who has a Halfcab hardtop, the bulkhead/seal, and a front folding seat rizer, and he's gonna sell me all of that for $450. Basically $450 is what he was wanting for just the top, but since I was coming to pick all of it up, he threw in the bulkhead and the seat bracket. Soooo....long story short... the CJ7 roll bar comes off and the Halfcab installation begins.

Well, the top is here. It came SOOOOOO close to fitting in the magnum, but I ended up having to strap it to the top. I got lots of funny looks The guy I got the top from was extremely friendly and had a ton of Jeep parts. He had about 15 varying jeeps, including scramblers, wranglers, CJ7/5s, he even had an old commando, that he's fixing up. While I was there I saw seat frames, hard doors, hard tops, gauges, dashes, there were a few engines, several transmissions, and probably a ton of other stuff there. If you guys ever have a hard time finding parts you might send an email his way, of course he lives in Kingsland, Ga , but he said he didn't mind shipping the things that could be. His name and email are: Hal Rogers hal.action@hotmail.comHe cut me a pretty good deal, he gave me the top (which is in fantastic condition), a bulkhead (also in really good shape), the seal for the bulkhead, a folding seat bracket, and an extra rear window seal for the top all for $450. Not too bad, since most people I talked to wanted $600+ for just the top and in lesser condition.

Was that the only scrambler top that he had or did he have more?
You called this a king ranch project. Are you going to use the king ranch leather seats?

As far as other tops......I can't say that I saw another one...he did have a scrambler with a top and bulkhead attached., and maybe another one .....don't know if he was wanting to take them off or not though. I'd be glad to email him and ask. I'd love to use the king ranch leather seats , but.......They are pretty wide, and I don't think They'd fit. Although, I don't think I'd want to be out in the weather or do any off-roading with those kind of seats anyway, so I'm going to eventually just get some spice colored bestop type seats and dashpad call it a fair trade. Pretty much only the exterior will be King ranched. At some point...I"m going to get the wheels too, but that requires a $500 adapter....on top of having to buy the wheels and the tires hehe.

Well, Here is a couple of quick shots with the cab on, I'll get better pics when I have time, but I think it's gonna look pretty good. I was surprised to find that I had just as much as I do, but am definitely greatful for it! Once I get back from Texas, I can start the actual installation.

Not as of yet. Project got put on hold for installing a new heat pump ac system in my house.......but I'm going to get back to it this coming week. Any body got any suggestions as to what to use for a good small hole filler in sheetmetal? Someone had installed some kind of track on the back of the bulkhead, and there are a couple of random screws that I'd like to remove and clean up if possible. Ooh, and does anyone have any experience welding in some new metal?, I need to to a tiny bit of work on the bottom where it connects to the floor of the jeep? Be glad to pay /buy beer/ whatever?

If it was me, I would weld the holes up and grind them down flush with the sheet metal.

Mark Guyton has a nice MIG welder. He's a pretty nice guy. He wanted to see this project in person, so I imagine he'll let you use his welder at his shop. He'll probably respond on this thread soon... Good looking so far. -RC

That would be nice....unfortunately welding is not a skill I can claim possession of, though maybe there's someone here that would/could. Of course I'm certainly willing to pay someone for their time and wire, or whatever else is needed.

Ok, anyone have any suggestions as to how, or where I should move my brake light wires. Should I just cut a hole in the bulkhead half of the half hard top, and seal/use a grommet or something...any thoughts? BTW, my Jeep Looks awfully odd without a roll bar hahahaha

I am confused, I thought jeep taillights were attached to the tub and not the top. Changing to a half cab should not change anything tailight related.
There used to be some guys from Florida that rode in Gardendale a bunch that had YJs built up real good that had scrambler half cabs and had a exo cage around the top that tied into a cage in the back of the jeep. It was very mean and aggresive looking. I don't have any pictures, but years ago Rob and I rode with them and I think that he took some pictures. He may still have some of these rigs.

If it's like my cj5, then the taillight wires run from front to back just under the inside top lip of the body down the drivers side. If so then I think basically you have two choices, cut a hole and grommet the bulkhead or rerun the wires under the body and up and around the wheelwell (which will require another hole in the firewall and probably needing to extend the wires). Since either route requires a hole and gromet and the bulkhead won't be removed, seems it would be the easiest and shortest route.

Yah I think going through the bulkhead with a grommet is the best route. JWP The tailights have nothing to do with the top except that the bulkhead for the halftop interupts where they run through in the interior, the actual tailights will stay put, I was just looking for the easiest way to run them through the bulkhead. Now I just need to go find a grommet in the size i need.
