what did you do to get the rear brake lines connected? And how is the new gearing. More power, i hope.

I used a brake line adapter from autozone, but the guy didn't know what I was asking for, so I just went in the back and got it myself The gearing is great, on a level surface, I can put it in first, let off the clutch and never touch the gas. Fuel mileage should get better too. I now run at around 2300 RPM's in 5th gear on the highway... about 65 mph I think... the speedo says 85.

Brad, That is one sweet axle swap. The smiley face added a great touch as well. Do you happen to know the wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface width of that axle? It looks like it is pretty similar to the width of your original axle. Just wondering if that would be a good swap in a CJ?

the 96-97 rodeo axle is 59-1/2" the earlier ones are around 57 I believe. Brad Parker can probably get you an exact measurement on those, his is from a 94 I think. If you are interested, He has talked about selling the one he has and go to a 60. His has already been under a CJ and the perches would already be welded where they need to go. the one I have is from a 96 Rodeo. As you can see on the gas tank skid, the axle is leaking pretty good around the pinion seal, so I need to get that fixed. Oh, and the smiley face was Anna's idea. ;D

Oh, by the way, I got the emergency brake cable adapted to work. Just a little grinding involved. They just need to be adjusted a little now. And I also need to make some shock mounts and mount the shocks. I have driven about 200 miles since the swap, so far, so good. My speedometer/odometer is off by about 14% the other way with the lower gears, but so far I have been 170 miles on half a tank. Let's hope that stays on track, I was getting about 340 per tank totally stock.

On the mileage, don't bigger tires change the odometer reading? And what was the axle ratio you have in the new one? I have 33"s and a four-barrel carb and I only get 10 miles/gallon. You have fuel-injection, too, so that probably helps. I wonder if changing the gear ratio would help mine. I have plenty of power, though.

On the mileage, don't bigger tires change the odometer reading? And what was the axle ratio you have in the new one? Yeah, bigger tires change the speedo reading. with stock gears, the reading will be less than the actual speed. I had 3.07 gears stock. a quick calculation and you come up with about 3.73 gears to put me back to the stock reading and the gears I have now are 4.30. I checked my actual speed with a GPS and compared it to my speedo reading. there is a 14% difference now. If I am going 65, my speedo says I am doing about 75. With the stock gearing and 35's, if I was going 65, my speedo read about 53. I have been about 170 actual miles since filling up, my odometer reads about 200.

Heck, I have been trying to save up money to do this since I bought the axle last September! and after all the crap I had to buy to do the swap, including the axle and new rims, I have about $250 in it. Not too bad I don't think.
