There has been some talk of a cookout on Labor Day Weekend. Maybe a local ride as well. The plans are still being made but this is a head's up so you can clear your calendar if you wish to attend. Now, who's interested?

Sept. 6? Hmmm... sounds good to me. We need to try some of the new places we have access to now. Dan mentioned something about a place to ride in Columbus. Ill stop by Hunt's Jewelry next week and see if Kent can get us permission to ride that land where the Ultimate Adventure was held last year, up Hwy 389 north of Starkville somewhere. So what we eating? My votes for drunk chicken.

I have been to the property a couple of times on 389 out from Starkville. A guy named Charlie owns the wrecking yard and the property that the trails are on. I know Charlie pretty well since most of the parts of my Bronco came from his yard. For a while a couple of months ago a group of guys would ride every Sunday afternoon, but I think folks got to breaking so much stuff that it slowed down a bit.
There are a bunch of deep mud holes that you could literally get lost in. I am not sure how they will be with the lack of rain that we have been having. I would be glad to give Charlie a call to see if it would be ok if we would like to ride out there. Just let me know a date.
There is also a place in West Point that I have been riding. I go out there to test things before I go on a trail ride. It is basically a flat piece of land on a that is pretty moist and holds water in a few places. It is private property, but the guy that owns it is a 4x4 enthusiast. As a matter of fact, he is pondering the ides of putting Rockwell axles under a school bus and running 50" or better tires so that he can carry a bunch of folks out to "playground" at one time.
When I get to work tomorrow I will scan and post some pictures of both places so that you could get an idea of the terrain.
I would certainly like to find a few more places to ride in the area. What about that place in Columbus?

Looks like the date will be that Monday, Sept. 6th. Yeah, post up some pics and we can figure out where we want to go. Dan, what are the details on the place in Columbus?

I will check with Charlie this week to see if it would be ok to ride out there.
I was thinking a neat idea would be since this is the Golden Triangle Jeep club is to schedule a day ride where we could secure riding areas in all 3 counties and take a day riding the whole triangle. I think we have Oktibbhea and Clay counties covered - just not sure about Lowndes.
There are some big hills in the northern part of Clay county that I need to do some looking into.

Here are some pics of the property out on 389 where the Ultimate Adventure went through. This particular hole is going around the edge of a pond. The trails are not very long, but there are some deep water/mud holes. Not really sure how it looks after somewhat of a dry season. The only time I have been out there has been after heavy early summer rains.

Here are some pics of the place in West Point that I test things out out. As you can see it is a wide open field of that nasty clay mud. It is awesome if you like the skinny pedal ;D You can spin and throw mud as far as your little heart and cleaning budget will allow. There are a few terraces and things that you can climb as well. This guy told me that he would love to see obstacle courses and some kind of organized 4x4 trails built. He has bulldozers and trackhoes that he said I could use at any time. I just haven't found enough interest yet.

As far as interest, there is plenty of it to be found here as far as organizing some trails and obstacles. If the guy is serious, it could be something good to talk about at the next meeting...

Basically our imagination could be the limit. I have an awesome Tough Truck challenge DVD that shows a log course, mud pit, rock crawl and so on. It has some great ideas of what could be done. I would even love a to import a few rocks for a rock garden

There is a guy in Starkville that has some rock, and has the equipment to get more. I have been talking to him about getting some. What he has now is way to big. The ones I saw were twice the size of my Jeep!

But that is twice the size of your jeep now... with a little work, (SOA, etc.) it could be the size of your jeep and that is doable.... ;D This all sounds like fun, when do we start?
