I went to the beach, but I think I may have gotten a little too much sun...

Sicko. I finished installing my HP Dana 30 in the ZJ. I put the adjustable lower control arms on so I can align the Jeep now. I attempted to put a NP231 in the Jeep also, but it didn't work out. The transfer case was an 88 from a Cherokee, so I used my 23 spline input gear and planetary set from the NV249 in it. When we put everything together (which went really smoothly) and installed it, everything looked and felt good. Then we went for a drive around the block and it sounded like it was eating itself. We replaced a few bearings we thought it was, but it still made noise. We figured out it was the planetaries from the 249 not agreeing with the ring gear in the 231. They weren't meshing right with each other. There was a gear cut change in the planetary in 95, but I've read where people have swapped in the whole planetary (like I did) to get around it. It worked for them, but not me. So I took the 231 back off and put back my 249 for now until I figure out what to do. If anyone needs help taking a Jeep transfer case apart, I've got pretty good experience. I have taken a 242 apart over Christmas to find it was bad, and I've taken the 231 apart 2 or 3 times to get the input shaft on, and I've taken the 249 apart twice to get the input shaft. Over spring break my dad and I took out and installed the transfer case twice. They aren't light. Other than that little dissappointment, my Spring Break went really well.
