Clint and I just finished fabbing up brackets to mount towhooks on the front of his Cherokee. I took a lot of pictures, so I thought I'd share. We cut out the brackets from .25" plate. Here's Clint using the cutoff wheel on the grinder.

Then we cut holes to mount them to the frame. Each bracket has three 1/2" and one 12mm bolts holding it. All grade 8 bolts. Making sure it fits.

Since the plate was only 6" wide and it fits behind the bumper, we had to add another plate on top of it to drop down and mount the actual hooks to. Break out the welder: Redrilling the 1/2" holes for the bumper.

Here's a better pic of the drop-down bracket. We're finallizing the placement of the hooks. Clint's getting excited about finally getting them. And finally, Clint's buttoning it all up.

As far as if they work.... we have yet to try them out. Next time we go mudriding though, I'm sure Clint will get stuck and we'll have to see if the hooks withstand yanking. Cross your fingers... -RC More pics at: photobucket.com/albums/v409/rccolacc/Towhooks/

Ya'll need to go ahead and start on my rear bumper. 3/16" boxed with weld through shackle mounts.

The hooks look good, you can NEVER have enough "insurance".

Now go test them so I don't have to worry about ripping a piece of metal off and having it hurling toward my Jeep.

Oh please people. There is like 24" of weld on each plate--- way overkill. The plate itself is 1/4"--- pretty thick. Clint's Jeep's frame is 1/16" thick square tube. What do you think will fail first? If the towhooks ever do pull out, it's because Clint's in too much trouble to begin with. I bet the towhooks rip the tinfoil frame out before the plate even bends. Can't wait 'til this weekend. -RC PS Clint--- Thanks for the moral support, lol.
