My uncle gave me a set of 17" dodge steel rims. I checked, and they fit my CJ. My question is.....do you think they're worth making a set of beadlocks out of? Can't think of anything else to do with them....I already have a summer and winter set of tires and rims. What do ya'll think?

What bolt pattern are they?
17" wheels seem to be the one that all the tire manufacturers are gravitating towards. The set I just built, I made out of 17" wheels and I really like them. The beadlock kits costs more, but the fact that you got the wheels free compensates for that.
You may want to check backspacing, they probably have pretty deep spacing which would make you much narrower.

I didn't measure the bolt pattern, I just tried them on my stock axles. I hadn't thought about the back spacing...that's a good point. While we're on the subject...what do you think about spacers? Where did you get your 'weld-ons'?

Opening up this topic again... If i was to purchase a set of weld on bead locks for my yj . Is there any one on here that would want to tackle the job for me ? I don't weld that much and definitely do not want to risk it here. Rob, do you know where I could get a set made ?

take a look at the vendor's section on pirate...there are several businesses that make them if you don't want to make your own.

I'm supposed to be doing a set of weld ons for a friend sometime in the near future, i think he ordered them from great lakes off-road, i believe they are a vendor on pirate. Never done a set before so it will be a learning experience.
Plenty of people run spacers with no problems, but ive had a bad experience and probably won't ever touch them again for a street driven rig. Having a tire and wheel come off and bounce across multiple lanes of traffic isin't very fun.

Let me know when you are going to work on it. I'd like to come by...assuming you'll be working on it in Starkville.

BC, Go out to Matubba Creek Machine shop on Hwy 45 north of Aberdeen, just before you get to Lann Chemical. We have them do our metal work, and they are very reasonable. This is who I was going to get to do mine....before I started my house! Let me know what you find out.

BC - would you be willing to pay a student a small fee to weld the lock ring for you? The reason I ask is that I am constantly looking for incentives to promote improved student initiative. A little project where a student builds something and gets paid for it really starts to inspire a desire for a career. I am paying a student to work on my wheels during an after school program (with my supervision). Our students have actually been tested on pressure tight welding. There are 2 or 3 that I would trust welding my wheels.

One thing to keep in mind on this that I have found is that Fastenal in Starkville had the best price on nuts and bolts. You will need to use Nylock or some kind of locking nut.

Jason, do you remember how long your bolts are? Did you use flat washers at all? What grade of bolt? Are they galvanized or have any rust preventative treatment?

Thanks Jason. Are your bolts galvanized or treated in any way?
